SLCC Germany (21- 23 Sept.): Cancelled
The German Second Life Community Convention 2007, planned to be held in Düsseldorf from 21st to 23rd September, has been cancelled. This is the second cancellation of a German Second Life event, following the recent announcement about SL Conference 2007 in Berlin.
There is a small amount of good news for anyone who had registered for the Berlin event. Cocoate.com have worked out a deal with IQPC, organisers of Achieving Real Business Growth Through Second Life, being held in London on 25th and 26th Septemeber. The deal provides a substantial discount to registrants who want to switch over to the British event. Check the SL Conference website for more information.
I am waiting for an opportunity to talk with one of the organisers of the Düsseldorf event to find out what has happened since Thursday — when it was “all systems go” — to cause the cancellation.

This actually the 3rd cancelation it was supposed to be in Amsterdam at first.
Wait for good news.
I guess people are figuring out that running conventions is a heck of a lot of work, and not nearly as easy as it sounds. To quote you, Mark: “Running conventions sucks.” Indeed!
All these conventions were badly organized, in fact no level of organization at all.
Another thing, compared to this conference:

The rest look slightly minor-leagues, having heard a presentation from most of these people I would opt for the VirtualWorldsForum conference. Have you seen their line up! It seems all the right people are backing VirtualWorldsForum, which is correct as there maybe only room for one event this year.
I would avoid the alternative one being offered in the place of the German event, or as the journalists are calling it ‘how to create business in virtual worlds by the people who haven’t done any commercial work in virtual worlds’. From what I understand, it could also be cancelled due the high level of demand for VirtualWorldsForum.
There is also this.

There is no mention of cancelling the conference on their website (as far as google translate helps me understand German).
Can you point me to where they announce that the conference has actually been cancelled?
I was told by Mark Lambertz (avatar: Mkyschnitzel Campbell) of anyMOTION, one of the sponsors for the event. He was very unhappy about it, having invested a lot of effort into the event, including the construction of a meeting centre on the anyMOTION sim in SL.
Supreme Thanks to Frans. I did some checking on the http://metaverse07.com/en/index.php website. This conference actually has ALOT going for it. It seems the organizers learned from their competitors mistakes and they are offering a 3 track (business, technical and community) moderately priced attendance system (the community track is only about 100$). Additionally, they are offering both English and German sessions. I was looking to attend the VWF but the prices are ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Not to mention, it’s only a “business oriented” conference. Nothing against the VWF, they seem to have a little better lineup of speakers, but my money’s on the “Metaverse”. This conference seems to have some pretty serious advantages going for it…Especially for geek-squad programmers like me.
You think it might have anything to do with German user numbers dropping by 25% in the three Key Metrics monthly numbers we have had since actual users (rather than percentages) were put in?
