Second Life Running on Nokia n800

Check out the mobile wizardry of Second Life resident Wrestling Hulka, who has a limited version of the virtual world running on the Nokia n800. [Via Metaversed, from whom I’ve stolen the pic above.] Cool stuff. Recall there was another mobile client for Second Life that was developed earlier in the year. 3pointD hears that others may be working on similar apps — although I’m not sure I need an “immersive” experience on my mobile device. What I definitely would like, however, is the ability to interact with people who are in the virtual world via my phone and functions like instant messaging, my virtual currency account, etc. That’s far more useful, but is apparently less sexy and more difficult, since I don’t hear as much about people developing these kinds of functions. We can only hope.

hear! hear!!
As Metaversed points out… if the device has a decent web browser, and I do believe in the case of the Nokia n800 it does, then surely something like Katherine Berry’s AjaxLife would achieve much of the functionality you desire?
Cool post! Saw something similar before, some dude playing World of Warcraft on his iPhone using a screen scraping program called Telekinesis. Dunno if this picture is doing the same thing.
like mojo says, this guy is using a VNC client running on the n800, is just that, you can view and control what is in your pc’s monitor, you can see the desktop’s icons on the n800 screen. SL is not actually running on the device :)
@Jorge, yes that’s exactly what I did. I sent a clarification to Nick Wilson - The current software limitations wouldn’t allow you to run even a hacked version of Second Life on the Nokia N800. I’m using a VNC viewer to view my desktop then adjusting the window so I can see into SL. It has the same effect as having it loaded on your nokia n800. I could literally log in from any hotspot and use Second Life on my device - which is what I”m pumped about :)
current limitations of HW let you run quit limited client (I mean quality of rendered stuff), but some non-3d functions could be implemented easily. we are working on it ;)
[…] A recent 3pointD article featured a mobile second life client created by resident Wrestling Hulka, an interesting experiment made possible since Linden Labs decided to open out their client code. […]
