3pointD Needs A Logo — Can You Help?
There comes a time in the life all good blogs when they must spruce things up a bit, and such a moment has now been reached by 3pointD. I need a logo, to fill the space in the upper left that’s now occupied by the title and description. Let’s say it has to be 468×60 pixels, so that I can use it for an advertisement, and also has to come in a 125×125 version. It doesn’t have to include the description line, just the word “3pointD.” And it has to better than the crude 3pedia logo that I pasted together a while back, which you can see above.
What do you get if you do me this favor? Well, you get paid, for one thing.
I’ve set aside L$50,000 to go to the person that designs what becomes the 3pointD logo. I think the best way to conduct the search is for interested parties to send ideas or sketches, which I’ll post on the blog for comment (along with your names, in case there are other interested customers out there who want to get in touch with you). With the help of readers, I’ll choose one or two of these to move forward with, solicit full logos from those people, perhaps tweak them with you once or twice, and then drop that small bundle of virtual cash on whoever does that best job. (I’ll drop a smaller bundle of cash on the runner up, so that your time isn’t wasted.) You’ll also get credit and a link in the sidebar somewhere.
The thing about a 3pointD logo is that it could be a really cool place to do some nice 3D design work. There obviously has to be a 3D element to the piece, and it should incorporate a blue that works with the colors here. After that, though, it’s up to you, as long as you think it reflects the kinds of things we’re talking about here. One thing that’s crossed my mind in the past is to combine the 3D aspect with the online identity issues that often crop up, which means there might be avatars’ faces incorporated in the design…? On the other hand, mapping is also a favorite subject, as is the interoperability of platforms. The logo should attempt to bring in more than just Second Life, without being too busy. I tend to favor simple designs over more complex ones, fwiw, and I love ideas embedded in form. A collage of interesting pictures from various virtual worlds is not going to excite me as much as something illustrates the concept of connectivity, augmented reality or online identity in its very design. Tall order, I know, but I’m not a terribly exacting taskmaster, so it will be interesting to see what people come up with.
if you’re interested, if you have any questions or if you want to drop some ideas on me, please send an email to themetaverse AT gmail DOT com. And if you’re not a designer yourself, please let your designers friends know that I’m in the market. I look forward to hearing from you.

I vote for the crude 3pedia logo. It rocks. Don’t ever change, Walker!
Some possible inspiration. If you look at the picture of you, Glitchy, and me from the Uffie show, you can clearly see we’ve accidentally started the 3pointD group sign: You’re throwing the three, Glitchy’s doing the pointing, and I’m pretty much making a duh face, so we’ve got a kind of human three point duh. Maybe abstract it, work on clarifying the duh sign and there’s something there?
