Business Plan Contest Winners Coming Monday
Readers might remember the business plan contest that was announced last November by Edelman and the Electric Sheep Company (sponsors of this blog). You’ll be able to find out who had the best get-rich-quick (or -slow) scheme on Monday, February 19, when the winners are announced on »Edelman Island«, according to Sheep Giff Constable. The four finalists:
* Anthony Reisman, Navillus Batra, Trilobye Pugilist, and Woodrow Seelowe: Metaverse Tech
* Frank Koolhaas and Zoe Visconti: SL Search
* Ozgur Ariel, Cihan Ariel, and Muammer Ariel: SL Music Network
* Pebbles Hannya: Market Truths
It would be interesting to know a bit more about the plans being considered, but I’m not aware that they’ve been published anywhere. I love the idea of this contest, which nets the winner a prize of as much as “sole access to a Second Life private island for 6 months, as well as L$350,000 seed money, and strategic guidance from Edelman and The Electric Sheep Company.” In addition, “Two runners-up can win L$100,000.” The language seems constructed to allow the contest to award slightly less rich prizes if the submitted plans don’t merit the full award. Unfortunately, the project has hit a couple of scheduling snags, the latest being a shift in the award ceremony from today to Monday to accommodate the schedules of the judges. But it’s a great test of Second Lifers’ business savvy — and interestingly, a good test of the ability of people like the Sheep and Edelman to spot a winning Second Life business plan. I’m looking forward to seeing whether the winner(s) can make a go of it in Second Life. Good luck to all.
