Promoting Second Life: The Official Guide

No, not the official guide to promoting Second Life. Second Life resident JimmyJet Fossett snapped a bunch of good pictures of last night’s in-world author appearance promoting the book Second Life: The Official Guide, which I wrote two chapters of, and he was kind enough to send along a link to the Flickr set where they’re posted. There were a few great avatars in attendance, so they’re worth checking out. No good griefers, unfortunately.
The guide is selling like mad, currently at an unbelievable #372 on Amazon, and it’s apparently been up there for a while. So get it while it’s hot. The nice thing about it is that not only does it walk you through using the world, but it also includes a lot of great information on the history and culture of Second Life that’s not really down on paper anywwhere else. Our in-world appearance was fun, and I hope we got to answer everyone’s questions. Of course, if we didn’t you can always drop some more here and I’ll do my best to fill in the blanks.
The appearance lasted a bit more than an hour — after which I had to log off to record the one-year anniversary episode of SecondCast. Can’t quite believe we’ve been on the air for an entire year, and in that time have actually managed to average an episode a week. Whew. Fun.
Happy Valentine’s Day.

I ordered my copy a few days ago - looking forward to checking it out. Congrats on one year of Second Cast - a lot of SL related entities are celebrating their one year right now; Second Citizen turns one year old today as well!
Cool of you to share the photos I shot at the book event, my ‘first’ in-world one I might add. Nice stage configuration with the book layout, and a good venue. As you say, some really great Avatars were in attendance. The beer garden woman with the large stein standing near you in several close-ups was a neat get-up. So that golf club you were wielding at the event must be handy for many uses including clubbing griefers that get out of hand.
I too have a book in transit.
Thanks for the great information supplied on this blog–very helpful!
I’m glad to hear that the juvenile Second Cast is aging out. Perhaps you’ll move on to your own podcasting or something more mature than this girls’ gossip fest.
Say, did the book stores put this book in the video games section or the computer section?
About the book…
I spent the night waiting and then attending the authors book meeting in SL
