The Virtual WMD of Second Life

Watch out, Second Life, there’s no doubt an invasion on the way. That’s the only conclusion to come to after reading the latest Reuters column by graphic novel author Warren Ellis, who investigates Second Life’s weaponry scene today, and find nerve gas on the Grid, among other things. “Is there a case to be made for Second Life as the lawless digital Wild West, where sometimes a man has to slap leather to defend his person and his homestead from the badmen and the road agents?” Ellis asks. There sure is: I made it almost two years ago in the Second Life Herald. Ellis’s column today is recommended reading. But leave your push guns at the door.

Unbeknowest to Ellis and others… under land options, there’s this toggle for push restriction. That toggle has been there for oh… months.
If one were to use it, well… push weapons become useless except in the hands of the landowner. *rubs chin thoughtfully* Maybe Ellis doesn’t own land? Or maybe people who own land don’t know how to use the land options…

You’re ahead of your time, futurist ;).
Nerve gas is wonderful in SL, especially if it’s strategical placed. Ellis recently reviewed one of my combat areas, and he’s lucky he did it from the air. It’s no push, and fly is still allowed. One wrong move over there —–> can result in gas being released someplace else.
I’m just a n00b at this. War has raged forever. Although I have doubts about the lifespan of the combat tools in the software.
Unknown to the “No Push” users, that option does not affect object velocity generated effects. Before you try telling others to use “No Push” in the future … try getting smacked by an object rocketing at maximum velocity.
push restriction defeat bullets have been around for almosy as long kk
Heh, I’m the owner of black ops. Those push restrict defeat bullets are my technology ;) I designed them BEFORE the push restriction option was ever available, it was originally designed as a push randomizer.
