More on SketchUp > Second Life?

Just a quick post to revisit an older entry about getting SketchUp models into Second Life. There are some recent comments there asking for help with similar projects, so I thought I’d just give it a bump. IBM’s Roo Reynolds had a SketchUp to SL importer going last summer, but it would be great to know if anyone has been using this kind of thing very much, or has done any more development work. And if you can help out Richard in the comments thread, so much the better.

does anybody know if Roo Reynolds ever released its skechtup->SL exporter publicly? would be nice tinkering with it…
Hi Michael. Sorry, despite having listed a few lines of Ruby which lie at the heart of the plugin in the post on Eightbar, I’ve still not released it. That’s partly because I’m still improving it (in my non-existent spare time) and in its current state it’s more likely to be frustrating than useful.
Hi. We have been looking at a number of ways to convert SketchUp content. We are working on solutions for SL; however, we are focused on 3D in a Web browser. In a couple weeks, we’ll have a free new open source utility that converts SketchUp KML (collada) files to X3D so you can embed them in full 3D on any Web page.
We have an older converter up now, but the new one for SketchUp 6 will be available Tuesday, Feb. 6, at www.mediamachines.com/downloads. Going forward we’d love to talk to anyone about coming up with a good solution for SL.
