Snapzilla Releases Best of SL Pics Books

Snapzilla, the Flickr-like site for the virtual world of Second Life, has released a two-volume “Best of” coffee table book set to celebrate a recent milestone: as of Tuesday, SL residents had uploaded more than 100,000 Second Life screenshots to the site. The books are available only in-world at the moment, but here’s hoping there might one day be a way to see hard copies. It seems inevitable; if Second Life continues to grow, we’ll doubtless be thumbing through A Day in the Second Life on the tables at Barnes & Noble at some point. Can’t wait. For now, head to the ANOmations store [<-- SL link] in Second Life to pick up your virtual copies.
The two-volume set contains snapshot baron (and SecondCast cast member) Cristiano Midnight’s selection of the best of Snapzilla, but it would also be interesting to be able to order such books assembled on the fly out of most viewed pics, most favorited or some other combination of the site’s huge collection. As a souvenir of the service itself, though, and a nice way to experience Snapzilla within SL, the books are a great purchase, and at L$250 per, the price can’t be beat.

These are snaptastic! Not only are they fun, but educational too–there’s a *lot* of history behind these pictures. And as Cristiano mentioned to me yesterday when we were chatting briefly, seeing the quality of the snapshots improve throughout the ages, both (1) talented ability and (2) technical capabilities, is really impressive. For example, when ripple water became a part of Second Life.
I almost dream of sitting in a dentist chair, like that one from Myst, and then gazing upwards at all these pictures flickering by.
I bet you could even take the 1000s and 1000s of pictures from Snapzilla and make one giant mosaic of the Second Life eye-in-hand logo, a la Truman Show box cover. :D
Okay, getting carried away here!

Cool idea indeed, and very do-able. In fact, we can already do such books… would you be interested in beta-testing? If so, drop me an email and let’s chat or meet inworld ;-)
