Visit Serenity in Second Life

Second Life resident Tao Takashi Rik Riel recently stumbled on a very cool build in the virtual world, a re-creation of ships and other gear from the short-lived but disproportionately excellent television series Firefly, which was created by Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame. (The TV show was created by Joss Whedon, not the SL build.) You can visit a huge replica of Serenity (the ship after which the movie of the series was named) in Burnet (128, 144, 46) [<–SL link]. The ship is so big (I’m floating just at the trailing edge of the blue panels in the pic above) that there’s plenty of room inside for various locations to have been re-created in striking, shiny detail. If you loved this show, it’s definitely worth a visit. Even if you didn’t, it’s a great build. And if you’ve never seen Firefly or Serenity, get thee to a video store. Now.

Thanks for the shoutout. But the SL name’s Rik Riel, pardner.
omg, sorry Rik! Correcting now. I had been IM’ing with Tao about something else and his name must have caught on a frayed bit of my mind. Apologies.
LOL. No worries, happens to the best of us.
There’s also another Serenity build on Rua at “Abby’s Serenity.” Dimensions are a bit off, but there’s some cool stuff in there.
Seems a bit feeble, but all I can actually manage to say is “wow!”
[…] I just saw this on 3pointD, and it’s so cool I am definitely going to have to check it out. As you may already know, Jesse, Frank and I are huge Firefly and Serenity fans, and a Second Life resident named Rik Riel has recreated Serenity (the ship that is the center of the movie and series) within the virtual world. The 3pointD post has a direct Second Life link, so log into SL and see for yourself. […]
As one of the owners of Washtown, the SL property that is featured above, I feel the need to point out that Fenix Eldritch created the model, not Rik Riel. But please, don’t let that stop you from coming by and hanging with your fellow browncoats :)

Deiter, you might want to head to the Very Spatial blog and let them know. I just say Rik stumbled on it. Although I even got his name wrong at first!
If you want to see something really cool. There is a flyable Serenity built by Zora Spoonhammer, with full engine effects, etc… You can see some action shots here.
If you want I can provide scripts to make the full scale Serenity fly :)
Are there tools for building these types of models for SL? I am a 3ds and Blender user. Would love to make something like this.
Shathim, you need a Second Life account! It’s free. The build tools are embedded in the world. Although also check this out, as well as this for Blender stuff.
dos any one know if you can import a second life model in to 3ds max? if so could you email me @ the - falken @ mail . com
the address is spaced for spam bots…
thanx…
