We Now Resume Normal Service
Apologies to anyone who had trouble accessing 3pointD yesterday. Our hosting service, which I am from now on referring to as NightmareHost, was down almost all day yesterday, at least on the servers I’m using. It was also down much of Tuesday — all of which adds up to a situation that has me pretty steamed, and considering switching over to something like godaddy or bluehost. But switching hosts would be an enormous PITA, and I’m not convinced any other service will be more reliable than the one I already have. Grrr… Insights welcome.

Heh. Well, I found you looking for some info on the latest glitches bluehost has been having. Bluehost got hit with a ddos attack last month, and my site went down for a little while one day. Which I was okay with since this type of thing happens sometimes. But now they’re complaining of regional power outages where their servers are. My site has been down for periods off and on for the past week, the worst being one on Tuesday that lasted for what looks like about four hours. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but one of the reasons I chose them was they advertised generators. Apparently, the generators only serve bluehost.com, not all the boxes for their clients. They didn’t accurately represent this to me AT ALL. So I’m thinking of switching servers, too… Bluehost has ticked me off. We’ll see, maybe they’ll make amends and fix it soon. Sigh. I hope anyhow. I’d skip godaddy, I’ve heard and been reading too many “iffy” things about them to consider them solid enough.
Not GoDaddy? Where are we to go??
Well, I’m still looking personally… A Small Orange sounds good for my needs, but who knows how long their reliablility will last? I have relatively modest needs (generally no more than 500 hits per day) and consequently shared hosting is my best option. Sadly, the way the shared hosting seems to go is that one company has a really good rep going, so everyone jumps ship from their old servers onto the one with the good rep… and then that one goes to crap, too… I’m almost wondering if it’s not better to stick with the devil I know (bluehost) rather than swich to devil I don’t. I don’t know. GAH! It’s all ridiculously frustrating.
