Wager Island Bets on 3D Gambling, Governance

PlayNoEvil notices that a company called Wager Island has leased a virtual island for $320,000 where online gambling will be the order of the day, according to a press release. It’ll be interesting to see whether avatarization draws more people into the already vast market for online gambling. The most intriguing element of the venture, though, is that “players can opt to become involved in the island’s political structure which include 6 party factions that influence law and regulations on the island. A Wager Island virtual media network also allows players to stay abreast of current events to make better informed wagers.” That’s a strange combination, if you ask me.

This seemed actually like the perfect combination of things to do in SL, the sort of thing that in fact people *do* do in SL when they make the world and the games for themselves.
What you neglected to mention is that this Wager Island isn’t a world. It’s not a 2-D or 3-D thingie you go into. It’s just a web page where you click around on different sections, like a text game. It feels similar to that game called http://www.nationstates.net/ where you make the fake countries and they deliver things to vote on and you wage war on other countries lol. It’s fun to play really furiously for about 3 weeks with like 10 or your friends. It’s not clear if Wager Island really lets you cash out the cash — you put IN the cash and it increases but not sure where it goes after that.
Wager Island is a fresh, new, innovative approach to online entertainment and gaming.
Being an avid gambler and gamer I appreciate it. Only time will tell to see if it is truly a viable web portal.
