Second Life-World of Warcraft mixed virtual reality mashup
Mashing up World of Warcraft into Second Life

The latest news from the Electric Sheep Company (who sponsor this blog) is of a fascinating event planned for the end of this month that will bring two virtual worlds together. The Sheep have previously held “mixed reality” events in which a real-life location was recreated in Second Life and interaction between the two made possible. But this will be the first “mixed virtual reality” event for the Sheep, and involves creating video, audio and chat links between the worlds of Second Life and World of Warcraft.

The details are still coming together, but it sounds like a World of Warcraft dungeon raid of some sort will be streamed into Second Life, letting SL residents watch and listen to what’s involved in an outing like that. In addition, a chat and/or audio bridge will let the two worlds communicate in real time. A Warcraft-like battlegrounds arena pitting teams against each other in games of Capture the Flag may also be set up in Second Life, and there may be a class taught from WoW, but attended by SL residents. The possibilities aren’t quite endless, but they’re really interesting. And they give an early look at what it will be like once disparate virtual worlds begin to link themselves together. Would love to hear from readers as to other things you’d like to see happen at such an event.
